Abstract

Starting from the emphasis on cultural approaches which exceed literature viewed as mere reflection of politics and institutions, this article studies the influence of Greek and Roman drama on the Aeneid. By using the ideas of "problematization" and "dramatization", it analyzes separately Virgil's appropriation of Greek tragedy, the tragedian's and Virgil's engagement with Homer, the ending of the Aeneid, and Virgil's connection with Roman drama, being derived of this last point the influence of the Virgilian reception of tragedy on later tragedians
