Abstract

This article referres to Horace's Odes 4, 1. In first place, the author considers this ode as a program: in this book we will be able to find once again love poetry, despite the affirmations in the initial verses of the Odes 3, 26 and in the first Epistle. Then, it follows a detailed commentary of the ode, where he aims to confirm and extend that interpretation, developing the sense of the supplication towards Venus and the role on that of Paulus Maximus richness and youth. In the last two sections takes place a discussion about the poem structure and its elassification as apopompé, recusatio or renuntiatio amoris. It ineludes also a debate regarding the cha
