Abstract

Although the criticism has not found a reading ih erotic key for the carmen V, the use of the word basia suggests the presence of an obscene meariing. This study proposes the revision of the kisses' affair in carmen V.I emphasize that I do Dot try to deny that where Cahlllus says 'kisses' he means and he says really 'kisses' -therefore he says this-, but to introduce this new element: polysemic Catullus himself has left open the pbssibility of deciphering some messages or hidden meanings in the semantic extension of fue word basia. I have tried, for it, to continue an orderly reasoning that culmina tes in a new Spanish version of the poem
