Abstract

In the history of the interpretation of Catullus’ carmen 64 we can observe some constants, which concern principally with discussions about the genre, structure, unity and the diversity of the poem. In this article, diverse proposals in accordance with these axes are taken up again, revising certain considerations and inquiring once again about their meaning. The choice of characters, for example, and the intentional changes in the details of the story with regard to the tradition, while they confuse and leave room for doubt, they reveal the complex axiological dimension of the text, which seems to involve us more than what we expect
