Abstract

The objectives of this paper are to fit a characterization of metalinguistic operations employed by Scottus in his treatrise De divisione naturae, its frequency and its justification as a resort of theological speech, and to definite the didactic intention of the author that is precisely expressed by the handling of such operations. The work’s method is based on the survey of numerous autonomic quotes that appear along the five books of the treatise, and their classification that is based on their formal characters and discursive needs. They tend principally to definite semantic equivalences between greek words, phrases, and latin ones, in a few cases to particular and polysemic latin terms
