Abstract

The use of images in Petronius’ Satyricon helps to place it as a key work (κανών, cardo) between its precedent Greek and Latin literature, and later compositions important in the raising of modern prose fiction in the Renaissance. Visual and color images in Petronius greatly contribute to that configuration. Similarly, a study of the relevant vocabulary, especially in early Humanistic editions of the work, may cast light on textual aspects not yet clarified in that masterpiece of Latin literature.
