Abstract

We shall analyze how Horace’s Epods 7 y 16 and Odes III, 3 y IV, 15 and Seneca’s description of Cato’s suicide in his treaty De providentia are used and refolrmulated by Lucan to create his particular take on the figure of Cato Uticensis. Lucan inverts Horace the imagery and trajectory of the expiator that Horace draw throughout his work to display the disturbing Weltanschauung that permeates his poem.
