Abstract

The subject of immortality on this world that the poet achieves with his poetry, and also the one that he grants to those he sings to, avoids the narrow ambit of the musa pedestris and claims different rhythms and meters from the iambic Epodes and the broken and colloquial hexameters of the Satires. Horace finds in the aeolian, alcaic and sapphic meters the appropriate connexion between the topic and the metre for his Odes.
